Sorting in the Matrix Visual

I have a matrix visual with two fields in the rows well:

1. Staff Member Code

2. Staff Member Title

I would like users of the report to be able to sort by either of these columns independantly. Sorting by Staff Member Code (the first column) works, sorting by Staff Member Title does not as it's essentially a child grouping. I have tried using the table visual, but as I scroll to the right of the matrix the Staff Member Code and Staff Member Title columns don't remain visible (freeze panes).

Is there any way to allow sorting by both columns and keep them frozen as you scroll to the right of the matrix?

Thanks

  • Hi SamRobinson120  - Power BI’s Matrix visual does not natively support independent sorting of child groupings. However, here are some possible workarounds:

Option 1: Enable Sorting in a Table Visual + Sync with a Matrix
Since the Table visual allows independent sorting, you can:
Create a separate Table visual with only "Staff Member Code" and "Staff Member Title".
Allow users to sort the Table independently.
Use the Sync Slicers feature to ensure that the sorted staff list matches the data in the Matrix.

      Hi, thanks for responding.

How would a separate visual work if you need to scroll vertically through a list? Won't you just end up scrolling in one visual but not the other or am I missing something?
