Sort by Column in Matrix Visual - not by Row or by Value

Hi,

Thought this would be an easy one but can't find another post on this or a solution anywhere.

I have a Matrix Visual with Product on the rows, Year on the Columns and Sales in Values. See below:

It is sorted currently on Product ascending and I can change it to sort by Total Sales, which is standard.

However, there is no way I can see to sort by 2015, or 2016 and so on. So 2015 would be Product 1, Product 4, Product 2 and Product 3.

Is there a reason why this basic functionality isn't there, that I'm missing?

I can create measures that calculate the Sales in each of the years and use this as a Table visual but this isn't recommended with a larger data model.

Is there maybe even another custom visual out there that can do this?

Thanks,

Rob

Hi, this solution worked for me! It allows sorting using RANKX function

This worked for my situation...

In the upper rght hand corner of the Matrix vistal there an an icon for More options.

1. Click on the . . .

2. Select Sort by

3. Chose the column you want to sort by.

I hope this works for you.

Hi @Anonymous

I don't know any visual such a matrix capable to do it.

I don't know if it will be suitable for you but I got same tables displaying each month for a lot of references (products) and, when I need to focus on one period, I add a slicer to select it, then I sort on Total.

For me it is more tha a workaround because I really need to display only on part of the matrix.
