Setting up Auto Refresh with Data that lives behind VPN

Good day all,

So, I have been using PowerBi for several years now, and one option I am trying to work my way through is Auto Refresh.  The problem I am facing is that my data (which lives in Jira) is connected with a plug-in to PowerBi.  On my desktop version of PowerBi, refreshing the data is no issue (though it would be awesome to have the ability to have the auto-refresh happen on the desktop version as well...hint, hint). The problem lies when I publish it to the online version for leadership to access it, and I try to set up the auto-refresh schedule.  I go through all of the steps, but the generated error tells me I need to be logged into my VPN...which I am on the desktop version.  I am a bit lost at what I need to do to have the online version of PowerBi linked with my VPN so I can set up the schedule.

  Thanks for any assistance!

Hi , @jjmack1977

According to your description, you published to the service using a report that connects to a Jira data source, but you encountered an error when configuring data source credentials to set up scheduled refresh: need to be logged into my VPN, if this is the case, I have an idea here, you can try to install Power BI on-premise data gateway on your local computer and configure the connection to this data source under the gateway. In this way, the gateway can run as a background Windows service and connect to your Jira data source, and the network environment used should be the network where your local VPN is turned on, you can see these two documents for specific operations:

Thank you for your time and sharing, and thank you for your support and understanding of PowerBI!

Assuming you mean Auto Page Refresh.  That only works for Direct Query data sources which would disqualify your Jira connector.
