Semantic model of data from Azure Log Analytics

Hi guys,

I have a couple of questions about data retrieval from Azure Log Analytics:

  1. I have a table ABC on Log Analytics with a total of 10 columns. I created a query using data from 3 of these 10 columns on Azure Log Analytics and exported it as a semantic model (let's call this SM1) to Power BI Service. I then used this semantic model for my report in Power BI Desktop. Now, I need 2 more columns from table ABC for my report. My question is: Do I need to create another query and export it again as semantic model (for example SM2) to Power BI Service and replace all the measures from SM1 that I already used in the report? I know we can also export M language and use it in Power BI Desktop, which is easy to adjust if needed, but I would like to know if there is any way to adjust/replace SM1 that is already located in Power BI Service.
  2. Can we use DirectQuery mode for the connection between Log Analytics and Power BI? If so, can you guide me on how to do this?

    Hi XuanHau 


    Please try the following steps:

    1.Open your Power BI Desktop file that is connected to SM1.
    2.Go to the 'Home' tab and select 'Transform data' to open Power Query Editor.
    3.Edit the query to include the additional columns from table ABC.

      Hi Anonymous 

      If I open the PBI desktop file (of my current report) connected to SM1 (already on the PBI workspace). It wont show SM1 in the Power Query Editor.

      If you mean downloading SM1 and opening it in PBI Desktop, we can do that. However, when I publish this semantic model again, it won't replace the old one already on the PBI service
