Semantic Layer Implementation in PowerBI

Hi,

i need a best fit solution to approach a customer.

1. Customer is having Azure SQL DB and dealing with large volume (TB Size) and it keeps on growing.

- if Live connection in powerQuery or dataflow, what is the limitation to deal with this?

2. Currently they are looking for Semantic Layer implementation - is it achievable in Powerbi and my thought is since its a single datasource and star schema approach i think, we can develop semantic layer concept in powerbi. share your thoughts, what are the limitations?

Client tried with analysis services but somehow they end up with cube since live connections are limited with

3. End users will use Self service BI, so once semantic layer - shared Datset is ready end users can use Self service Bi.

If 30 End users are there , which license will be best fit ?.

Thanks in advance.

  • From the information you gave, you probably want to connect to the DB with DirectQuery. Note that Power BI is functionally a superset of SQL Server Analysis Services (tabular).

For 30 end users, Power BI Pro licenses for each is likely what you want unless you need the extra features included with a Premium license.
