Seeking Advice: Optimizing Power BI Report Performance

Hello Power BI Community,

As I delve into Power BI after transitioning from Tableau, I'm facing challenges related to optimizing report performance, particularly when dealing with slow-loading dashboards or workbooks. In Tableau, I explored various strategies and techniques to enhance performance, such as optimizing workbook structure, data source connections, and dashboard design.

Could you please share insights or best practices for optimizing report performance in Power BI? Specifically, I'm

interested in techniques to address slow-loading dashboards or workbooks and improve overall performance.

Your expertise and guidance on this matter would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you for your assistance.

Best regards,
Manoj Prabhakar

@manoj_0911 ,

1. Use star Schema

2. Use only numeric keys to join

3. Do not use bi-directional joins

4. Prefer measures whenever possible.

5. For complex calculation check if part of that can be moved as calculated columns

6. Try not to use related in measure unless it is most needed

7. Prefer Window, Offset, Index, Rank and Rownumber, wherever possible

8. Use Import  mode

9. Create a dataset file and publish without visuals and then use that as source for visual file
