Security Policy error for Sharepoint Data Refresh

I'm trying to refresh a report locally on PBI Desktop, which used to refresh fine previously but since last week its been giving a security policy error for one of the Sharepoint datasource

Error:  "

Sorry, a security policy is preventing access
An organization security policy requiring token protection is preventing this application from accessing the resource. You may be able to use a different application."
The report refreshes fine on PBI service.
Any come across a smiliar issue, and has a solution?

Hi @akshatar

I’m not aware of any changes that occurred globally, nor have I seen any reports of issues regarding this topic in the new version. However, I still recommend checking with IT to see if any changes were made on their end.

If the issue persists, consider opening a ticket with Microsoft.

Hi @akshatar

The issue is likely related to authentication or permission settings for the SharePoint data source. Since the report refreshes fine in Power BI Service, try the following:

  1. Verify Credentials:

    • In Power BI Desktop, go to File > Options and settings > Data source settings.
    • Check that the credentials for SharePoint match those configured in Power BI Service, especially if MFA is required.
  2. Check with IT:

    • Contact your IT team to confirm whether any new security policies (e.g., token protection or conditional access) are affecting Power BI Desktop’s ability to connect to SharePoint.
  3. Update Power BI Desktop:

    • Ensure you're using the latest version of Power BI Desktop to avoid compatibility issues.

Thank you @Ritaf1983 , the creds for pbi service and desktop are same. I'm guessing there has been some policy change, but I'm unable to figure out what has changed?
