Scheduled Refresh for PostgreSQL (Render)

Hi All,

I’m using a PostgreSQL database hosted on Render, and I want to set up scheduled refresh in Power BI. From what I understand, I might need to use a data gateway.

Could anyone please confirm which gateway would be suitable in this case or share the steps (or an article/resource) to set it up?

Thankyou, @Royel@Shahid12523, for your response.

Hi AnkitaaMishra,

We appreciate your inquiry on the Microsoft Fabric Community Forum.

Further to the response provided by @Shahid12523 , please follow the steps below which may help to resolve the issue:
1. The primary cause may be that the scheduled refresh depends on whether the Power BI Service (hosted in Azure) can directly access the PostgreSQL instance on Render.
2. If Render blocks Azure traffic, the recommended approach is to install an On-premises data gateway (standard mode) on a machine that can reach Render. Configure the PostgreSQL data source in the gateway and map the dataset to it.
3. Ensure that the gateway meets the required network prerequisites so it can communicate with the Power BI Service.

We hope this information helps to resolve the issue. If you have any further queries, please feel free to contact the Microsoft Fabric community.

Thank you.

For PostgreSQL on Render, you usually don’t need a gateway since it’s cloud-hosted.

  • Just install the Npgsql connector, connect in Power BI Desktop, then publish.
  • In Power BI Service, set credentials and allow Power BI Azure IP ranges in Render firewall.
  • Use a gateway only if Render blocks external Azure traffic.

Hi, @AnkitaaMishra

you need to use on-premises data gateway (standard mode)

You can download it from here
