We are adopting Salesforce as our CRM system. We have made extensive use of PowerPivot for numerous company reports. We are not yet familiar with the analytics capabilities built-in to Salesforce but, in my experience, the built-in analytics capabilities of virtually any system ae limited, so that, to obtain reuiored information in certain reports, something more sophisticated ibecomes necessary. Hence our use of PowerPivot.
I see that there is a built-in capability for retrieving Salesforce Objects using PowerBI Desktop. I have not yet explored the possiblities for reporting using this tool. Given my background with PowerPivot I would prefer to be able t connect to our Salesforce data using an ODBC Connector. This llows me to write my own queries for retriving data for reports.
I know there are commercial ODB drivers for connecting to Saleforce but I am curious as to why one is not available from Microsoft, given that PowrBI allows for connecting to Saleforce. I would have thought Microsoft would have an ODBC connector to use with PowerPivot.
We use such a connector, obtained from Microsoft, to create PowerPivot reports from our website data, which has a MySQL backend.
Any information about this would be appreciated!
Thanks!
