Hello,
We are unable to connect to a SAP BW system that is hosted by SAP. We use a SAP router string (ex: /H/15x.xx.59.xx) along with the Server name/client/instance number when connecting from SAP GUI.
In Power BI, while establishing a connection to the SAP BW instance, we do not see an option to enter the SAP Router string. Has anyone else encountered this issue and/or are aware of the solution, please let us know.
Thanks,
KCR
Hi @kcr
When attempting to connect Power BI to a SAP BW system that is hosted by SAP and accessed through a SAP Router string (such as /H/15x.xx.59.xx), users may run into challenges because Power BI's built-in SAP BW connector does not provide a direct input field for the SAP Router string during connection setup. Typically, in SAP GUI, users can easily configure connections using the router string along with the server name, client number, and system ID. However, Power BI relies on the underlying SAP NetWeaver RFC library, which expects the SAP connection details to be defined in the SAP Logon Pad or SAP GUI configuration on the machine. Therefore, for Power BI to use the SAP Router string correctly, the connection must first be defined and tested in the SAP Logon Pad, where the router string can be entered and saved. Power BI can then reference this pre-configured connection using the “System ID” (SID). If this configuration is missing or incorrect, the connection attempt from Power BI will fail. This limitation has been encountered by other users as well, and the recommended solution is to ensure the SAP GUI is installed and configured with the required SAP BW connection (including the router string), so that Power BI can piggyback off that setup.
Hi @kcr
Power BI’s SAP BW connectors accept a SAProuter string in the Server field.

Hi,
I'm facing the same problem did you find a solution to it ?
Hello,
Have you find a solution to this ? I'm stuck in the same issue and I can't find any alternative to manage the connection between SAP system and Power BI?
This is not an issue on router but on SAP Router, when SAP System is out your network, you use a SAP Router and in SAP Logon Pad you customize a SAP Router String and it's works, in Power BI BW connector you can't enter this string...

Hi @kcr,
Based on research, currently power bi not support SAP Router string, you can only use the "server", "system number", "client id" to connect.
For your issue, you can post this requirement to ideas:
