Running total

Hello,

I have the following simple table.  How do you create a measure for RUNNING TOTAL that is based on date column?  Thanks.

I will have a date slider.

For example, if I select January 3-5, I will see only this

  • Use this formula when calculating running total measure

    Running Total = Calculate ( SUM('sample'[QTY]), FILTER( ALL('sample'[Date ]),'sample'[Date ] <= MAX('sample'[Date ])))

    See the sample below for a visual with running total column

    Hope it helps.

      Hi HaneeshaThan ,

      Thank you very much for your quick reply.  Unfortunately the formula does not work.  I am getting the same Running Total as the QTY.  Any ideas?  Thanks again.

    Are you summarizing the QTY column ?

    This is with out QTY summarised

    This is with

    So recheck what is happening to your fields.

  • Although I'm quite confdent with DAX I still use the power BI built in measure for running totals. You can't go wrong. Instead of selecting measure, select 'New Quick measure' a few items down. Go down to Running Total on the list. add the desired columns - manipulate the DAX where required. I often add other variables which only start showing data when it's revelant etc.
