Restricting user group access within a workspace

Hi

I have a power BI Premium capacity workspace. I have added 3 user groups as members (only few own Pro license). I have multiple reports published in this workspace. I want to restrict content among the user groups. For example, lets say I have 5 published reports, I want the reports 1 & 2 to be viewed only by user group 1, reports 3 & 4 to be viewed only by user group 2 and reports 1 & 5 to be viewed only by user group 3.

Request some help on this. I have added all three user groups as viewers to the workspace. But I am not able to manage permissions in the report access.

Regards

Monica.

Hi @Anonymous

You can restrict access to some reports by using the app. Because related dashboards and reports are bundled together.

Kindly refer to document to publish the report as an app, and share the app with co-workers:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/service-create-distribute-apps

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/consumer/end-user-apps

Similar kind of issue I am also facing,
I have one workspace and one common mailid for every users and there are different reports accessed by multiple people so I want to restrict people to view different department reports.
so somehow I want sales reports to be viewed by sales person only and finance reports to be viewed by finance person only and so on with one workspace and one common mailid.

So anyone has some idea about it?

Hi, Thank you all so much for sharing the solutions. I finally created an app with selective dashboard and shared that with user group. But the people in that group are unfortunately not able to access the reports, even after I gave the necessary permissions.

Hi @Anonymous,

To restrict acces in Power BI is not quite possible but you can save the dashboard in your workspace and click the toggle to enable app and than you can select whatever dashboards, reports or charts and share those with the specific people.

If I helped you a little please select as solution.

Best regards,

Right, you don't want them as members or viewers of the workspace. Once they have access at the workspace level, they can see everything in the workspace. Take them out of the workspace and just share the individual reports with the users.

Hej Greg,
if in one workspace more developers are working, on their own agenda, than there is  no way to restrict the access to other reports than they own? So If I am working on sensitive stuff what whot not be accessable in the workspace for anyone, than I have to have a separate workspace for it? or I can use the RLS to restrict them at least to see the data behind the report?
Thanks!
