Slicers A, B, and C are on a report with some visualizations. All three slicers must have some selected value for the visualizations to have meaning. How do I enforce the requirement that a slicer have some selection?
@RandyPgh, there is one feature request about it, you can vote it up: https://ideas.powerbi.com/forums/265200-power-bi-ideas/suggestions/7162004-default-selected-slicer-o...
Hello,
There is no option to disable "Select all" or to have a force selection in a slicer. But i have developed a workaround to hide data for "All" by creating 2 measures as below.
Valid_selection = if(HASONEVALUE(Slicer_attribute), "", "Error: Select a Single value")
Valid_selection_numeric = if(HASONEVALUE(Slicer_attribute), 1, 0)
Pull the first measure into a card, which will be blank when a single value is selected and will throw an error message when it is more than one/All.
Second measure to be added as a visual level filter, add Valid_selection_numeric = 1 as visual level filter on all the visuals. Which means, the data will be displayed only when a single value is selected. Nothing but hiding the data for all.
Let me know if you have any questions. Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Soumya
I do not believe you can force that behavior. Best you can probably do is to save the Desktop file with some default selections and so then unless the user uses the "eraser" icon in the slicer, then they would be OK.
Would be a good thing to add as an Idea if not already there. There is a "Selection Controls" section in the format properties for slicers now so I figure it is something that is possible to achieve.
If you create an Idea I'll Vote for this!
The way I deal with this is with a Text Box - placed so User can't miss - and letting them know - that without the Slicers the data is aggregated for all.....whatever the case may be...
