My use case is that I have a live data stream which I must make publicly visible on my company's website.
To do this I created a report which uses a DirectQuery SQL Server data source.
When I share the report there are two different options 1) portal/website 2) embed (public)
For option 1 (portal/website) when the live data stream is updated the report does show the new data (however only after refreshing the report with f5, is this possible without manually refreshing the browser?). However the problem here is that it requires authentication.
For option 2) (embed public) when the live data stream is updated, the report does not get the new data, even after a manual refresh.
Is this expected behaviour?
Is there some way to force the public report to get the new data?
Is there a better way to achieve my use case?

By default the refresh of a dataset in a Direct Query Mode is done every 15 mins. It is also refreshed on demand when a user play with slicers and filters in the report. Using the first option is a normal behavior.
For Option 2, I don't think you are using Power BI embedded analytics solutions
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/developer/embedded/embedded-analytics-power-bi... If not then it is normal behavior.

Thank you for your response. You are correct I am not using the Power BI embedded analytics solutions.
Can you please expand more on what the expected behaviour is in this case.
"Can you please expand more on what the expected behaviour is in this case." did you mean your case?
Option 1 is your best option if you are not planning on going Premium or Embeded solutions.

Thank you. I do have a Power BI premium account and an Azure tenant. I'm currently working through the guide to set up the Embedded Analytics service. It's difficult to tell what the charges will be on my Azure tenant but I can try it for now.
I'm not sure Option 1 will work. It would require public visitors of my website to have an account for my organisation right? Maybe I could sign them up somehow.
