Report access via Power BI Desktop

Hello,

I have developed a report which connects to the Oracle data source and uses directquery as storage model. I would like a few of my team members to open this report. They would be doing this using Power BI Desktop, as we don't have the PBI Service installed.

Will they be able to open the report using the Power BI Dekstop without having to enter any database credentials to pull the data from data source? Or will they be prompted to connect to data source the first time they open the report?

My understanding is that, since I have provided the data source credentials at the time of development, they are stored in the report and will automatically be used even when other users open the report. Is this correct?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Not entirely correct. There are report level permissions ("Data sources in current file") and global permissions.

if you hand over the .pbix file to a colleague only the former travels with it. The global permissions stay on your PC.

Expect them to have to reauthenticate.
