Can someone please request and Idea for a relative date filter in Power Bi Desktop. I dont have permisson create one.
I am looking for an implementation like in Google Looker Studio.
For Example: From 2 Months in the past up until 1 quarter in the future.
Right now i do not see this option available.
And if 2 filters are created one cannot create an or filter by the looks of it.
Cheers.
Hello Christine, thanks you're for your response.
I understand there are workarounds/best practices for this, but I am not finding an easy 2 click solution - which something so basic should be available.
I am not sure how this will enable mit to filter on the last 3 Quarter and the next 4 months for example. Can you elaborate please?
Thanks
It would be a 2-click solution if you always used date tables, which is what is recommended - it becomes part of the usual process. Typically orgs will make a common date table everyone can use, you just select it as one of the tables you import into your model. It has columns for relative quarter, relative month numbers, so for your filter you'd use the advanced filter option and set it to "relative quarter >= -3 and relative month <= 4" and that's it.
I agree that the default date filtering in Power BI could be more dynamic and user-friendly, but date tables are a very flexible and invaluable tool and are useful for all sorts of things like time intelligence functions so they're worth using.
In Power BI the most flexible way to work with relative dates is by using a date table. That way, you can do relative weeks, months, years, quarters, etc. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/guidance/model-date-tables
