Relationships between datasets

Hi,

Let's say you have the following datasets:

Dataset 1

regioncountry
A1
B2
C3

Dataset 2

business unitcountry
BU_A1
BU_B2

Relation: single (d1) to many (d2), single filter direction

Make a view with 2 displays:

- Table: displaying the rows of dataset 1, with details of dataset 2: the row of country 3 will have a blank business unit, which is ok.

- Pie chart: showing the business units per country

If I now click e.g. BU_A in the pie chart, the table at the bottom is not filtered to the rows that only have BU_A.

Is it possible to set up a relationship like this?

So basically, dataset B does not have a related item for every record in dataset A. Yet, I want to filter a table showing records of dataset A (with some details of dataset B, if available), based on a certain piece of the pie chart based on dataset B.

Is this possible?

Thanks in advance!!!

it is because your single direction relationship is preventing you from filtering on the many side.   If you want to filter BU_A  then you need to have a filter in both directions and you need to change your relationship to both instead of single - currently you can only filter from the one side, not the many side.

However that can provide confusing results sometimes depending on what you are doing and if you dont understand how power bi works.  So make sure you understand how the bi directional relationships work.

Hi @Anonymous ,

I agree with @vanessafvg  statement. If you are still confused, can you provide more detailed requirements or desired results for me to do further testing.

Looking forward to your reply.

Best Regards,
Henry
