Hi Power BI Community,
We have several PBI reports connected to views stored in a SQL Server. We directly applied in Power Query a SQL statement to decrease the number of rows.
Since some weeks, we are noticing a huge increase in the time needed to refresh those views in Power BI Desktop. This is really weird as we didn't change anything in our Data Model (or SQL statement) and the amount of data/the number of column in the views didn't evolve.
During the load, the steps "Evaluating..." and "Connecting to..." are taking much more time (like forever...) than before and the following raws load has also significantly slow down ( it is evolving dozen by dozen now in comparison with thousand by thosand in the past)
Since today, it is also impacting the daily refresh on Power BI Service. Here is the kind of error message we are facing :
[ValidateMarkupTags]<ccon>[ccon]DataSource.Error: [ccon]Microsoft SQL[/ccon]: [ccon]Execution Timeout Expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.[/ccon]. DataSourceKind = [ccon]SQL[/ccon]. DataSourcePath = [ccon]SERVER NAME[/ccon]. Message = [ccon]Execution Timeout Expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.[/ccon]. ErrorCode = [ccon]-2146232060[/ccon]. Number = [ccon]-2[/ccon]. Class = [ccon]11[/ccon]. [/ccon]. The exception was raised by the IDbCommand interface.</ccon> Table: TABLE NAME.
According to our TECH team, there is no issue from the Server side.
Does anyone also faced this issue and could provide a solution for us?
Many thanks.
Hello,
Thank you for the answer.
I had some discussions with our TECH partner and the views didn't change as well as the performance in SSMS is good.
Any other explanation?
Best regards
Anything dynamic in your Power Query code? like changes in column names?
Every time you make a meta data change to the view Power Query throws a hissy fit and wants to "Evaluate" that meta data again.
Try to keep your views unchanged for longer.
Is the performance good in SSMS?
