Recent Windows Update KB4565351 / KB4569751 broke my PBI Desktop

Hey guys,

seems like the recent windows update broke my PBI Desktop.

After updating, I can't open my master dataset anymore - it just loads endlessly when opening it.

2 days ago I experienced this on my vm - after rolling back the windows updates it worked just fine again.

So today my laptop got the sames updates (yeah I'm dumb for not stopping it 🙂 ) and the same is happening...

Does anyone else experience this?

Those updates got installed and broke my PBI Desktop:

I'll open a support ticket since I'm not sure if Microsoft is already aware on this issue...

Best regards,

Jano

Hi, @Jano

Please check the following list providing the minimum requirements to run Power BI Desktop:

  • Windows 7 / Windows Server 2008 R2, or later
  • .NET 4.5
  • Internet Explorer 10 or later
  • Memory (RAM): At least 1 GB available, 1.5 GB or more recommended.
  • Display: At least 1440x900 or 1600x900 (16:9) recommended. Lower resolutions such as 1024x768 or 1280x800 aren't recommended, as certain controls (such as closing the startup screen) display beyond those resolutions.
  • Windows display settings: If you set your display settings to change the size of text, apps, and other items to more than 100%, you may not be able to see certain dialogs that you must interact with to continue using Power BI Desktop. If you encounter this issue, check your display settings in Windows by going to Settings > System > Display, and use the slider to return display settings to 100%.
  • CPU: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit or 64-bit x86 processor recommended.

Best Regards

Allan

FYI - I completly deinstalled the ms store app version of powerbi and manually installed an older version, that fixed my issue so you were right, it's not the windows update in this case!

FYI - it's not only the august update of powerbi.

I rolled back to powerbi june version. it works fine again on my vm (without the recent windows updates), but it doesnt work on my laptop (powerbi june + recent windows updates).

So my point is still valid - recent windows update broke my PBI Desktop 😞

Ah great.

Just check my vm and laptop - both got the PowerBI August Update already and nowhere it's working.

So my laptop is double broken (windows update and july version of powerbi also didnt work together).

Thanks for the infos!
