I have a financial report with specific salary items that need to be hidden from some users. Is there a way to use RLS to hide these without changing the bottom line calculation?
Solved! Go to Solution.
row level security is exactly that row level security, if you need to hide something using RLS the row will be hidden so you either need to just hide that column with OLS ore you can do something less secure like not displaying the value with an if statement, which is less secure. You will need to find another way to include that information in the totals if you need it still to be present.

I want to hide the specific line item, such as Director salary, without changing the column subtotals and grandtotal calculation.
in order to that you would need to hide a column with the line item description or if you remove that line you would lose the value, Are you still wanting to show other line items? You can also use object level security to hide a column.
how are you displaying this?

I am displaying the data in a matrix. In the Row section of the matrix I have a description type, in the column section I have a Date field, and for the values I have the sum of a value. Through managing roles and role level security we are hiding specific description types from certain users but even though they cannot see those specific descriptions we want the values to calculate as if they could (same subtotal and grand total whether they have access to see description type or not).

you want to hide the calculation or the column salary as is, for specific users ?
