I am trying to apply RLS on a imported dataset which is connected to a PowerBI Dataset (Composite Model). However, the RLS works on the PowerBI Dataset only when the connection field (Geo/Region) is present in the visual. If you refer to the last screenshot below, the RLS works on the right visual where the connected field is present in the visual and not on the left visual

Hi @EshaanG
I create a sample file connected to Power BI Dataset for test, however, in Manage Roles Tab I can’t find tables. So could you kindly share the sample file after removing sensitive information?
Besides, I create a sample file under import mode. In this case, it works OK.

Thanks for the response! The RLS does work with imported tables but not with a Direct Query to PowerBI Dataset. In my case the "rls" table is imported but the "Deal_Band.." table is a direct query to a PBI Dataset owned by someone else.
As you already noticed, the PBI Dataset does not show up in the Manage Roles section and therefore my rule is setup on the imported "rls" table. Ideally, when the "rls" table gets filtered by a role it should filter the connected PBI dataset and show visuals on that. However, it only does that when the joined field is present in the visual
Unfortunately, I cannot share a sample file because I don't own the PBI dataset. I really want to understand why the visual does not work when the joined field is not in it!
Hi @EshaanG
Thanks for your reply.
I test again, import table rls and get Table from Power BI dataset, amazingly it works OK also…
Here are my operating screenshots:
Manage roles,
Then, view as APAC,
Or is there anything let out?

This looks great but somehow it does not work on my side. The visual on the left which does not have Geo in it does not get affected by RLS. Can you please share the .pbix file and I can compare if there are any issues with my setup?
