RLS not flowing to the other tables in data model

Hi team,

I have a table with 7 dim tables and one fact table.  They are connected through the "ID" column with one to many relationship from dim to fact.   Cross filter direction is set to "Single" and its taking lot of time to validating the relationship if i change it to "Both".

I use direct query to the Oracle DB to fetch these 8 tables.

Now, my question is, I have created a role under "Manage roles" for on the fact table.  And i expect that this filters the dimension table as well.   But its not happening.

Any idea how i can make this work?

You can't.  Well, you shouldn't.

RLS needs to be applied to a table at the outer rim of your data model (where the dimensions live), and then will flow along the search arrows which must point inwards to where the facts live.

Adding an RLS rule to the facts table means that tha rule will be ignored by the dimension table as you (correctly) set the filter direction to single, from dimension to fact.

The same logic applies to any business problem you want to solve in your Power BI data model. Always, always follow the arrows. If you can't get from here to there then your data model cannot help you answer the question.
