RLS equivalent to filter and control access to reporting tabs

Hi PowerBI Community

My team and I have a very specific use case that we need help with:

Background:

We have developed a set of reporting tabs in PowerBI desktop as part of a "master" .PBIX file. Inside this set of reporting tabs, we have different tabs that visualise/analyse different sets of data from the same data source (eg one reporting tab assesses shopper purchase behaviour, whilst the next reproting tab assesses stock movement levels).

Requirements:

We are implementing RLS to ensure that only specific people can see specific sets of data, however, we would like to implement a "filter/role" that would enable a specific person to only see a specific set of reporting tabs. From the EG above - consider someone who should only see the "shopper purchase behaviour" reporting tab, and the not the oter reporting tabs.

Question:

How can we go about implementing a "filter or role" to restrict access to certain reporting tabs?

Reason:

We service a range of brands and stakeholders who want to see different views (at different levels of access). Ideally we would like to only maintain one "master" .PBIX file to service everyone's needs. We want to avoid having to publish multiple different versions (as subsets) of the "master" .PBIX file

Any help will be appreciated 🙂

HI @Anonymous,

Nope, current RLS works on data model level, so you can't setting roles based on tab label.

For your scenario, I think dynamic RLS with username should be a method to achieve your requirement.

After setting mapping table with username and specific column correctly, you can simply achieve dynamic filter.

RLS with UserName()
