QuickViz Challenges

I am trying to upload my pbix file but I cannot do it.  I think it is too big. The file is 100kb and the maximum file size is 5MB.   It keeps giving me a red x and it won't upload. What am i doing wrong?

  • Hi swilliams7511

This issue almost never happens because of file size.
When the upload box shows a red X, it usually means one of the following:

    ---

🔍1. The file name contains a blocked character

The community platform rejects PBIX uploads if the file name includes:

    spaces at the end

    special characters (# % & { } \ / < > * ? $ ! ‘ “ @ + | 😃

    emojis

    very long filenames

    Fix:

Rename the file to something simple, e.g.:

    MyReport.pbix

    ---

🔍2. You’re trying to upload while replying (not in a new post)

The community sometimes blocks attachments when replying to a thread.

    ✔ Fix:

Edit your post or create a new reply → use the “Add attachment” button → upload.

    ---

    3. Browser issue (very common)

Some browsers block the upload widget.

    ✔ Try:

    Switch to Chrome or Edge

    Clear cache

    Disable ad-blockers / privacy extensions

    Try in Incognito / InPrivate

    ---

🔍4. Upload disabled for your account level

New accounts or accounts with low trust sometimes cannot upload PBIX files until a moderator approves the user.

    ✔ Fix:

Try uploading a ZIP file instead of PBIX — this usually bypasses the restriction.

Just right-click → Send to ZIP → Upload the ZIP.

    ---

🔍5. Cookies issue in the community portal

Power BI Community is known to reject uploads when cookies/auth tokens expire.

    ✔ Fix:

Sign out → Sign back in → Refresh → Try uploading again.

    ---

    ✅Most reliable workaround

Zip your PBIX and upload the ZIP file.

This solves 90% of cases immediately — even when PBIX upload is blocked.

  • Hii swilliams7511

If you’re getting a red X, the issue is not file size but usually the file type or upload method. The QuickViz challenge page only accepts ZIP files, not PBIX files directly. You need to place your PBIX inside a ZIP file and upload the ZIP. Once zipped, the upload will work as long as it’s under 5 MB.

  • Hi swilliams7511

If your PBIX file is only 100 KB and the upload limit is 5 MB, the size itself is not the issue. A red “X” usually indicates a different problem.

    Could you confirm:
    • Where exactly you are uploading the file (Power BI Service or QuickViz Challenge portal)?
    • Does the portal show any error message besides the red “X”?

If this response was helpful in any way, I’d gladly accept a 👍much like the joy of seeing a DAX measure work first time without needing another FILTER.

Quick Viz Challenge Gallery  It says submit there. I don't know where the portal is.

    1. O nome do arquivo contém caracteres especiais

A plataforma do QuickViz costuma bloquear arquivos com:

    acentos (ĂĄ, Ă©, ç
)

    espaços excessivos

    sĂmbolos (%, &, #, ?, /, , !)

    ✔ Como resolver:
    Renomeie o arquivo usando apenas:

    letras

    nĂșmeros

    underline (_)
    Exemplo:
    desafio_quickviz.pbix

    2. O arquivo estĂĄ aberto no Power BI Desktop

Se o PBIX estiver sendo usado pelo Power BI, o sistema impede o upload.

    ✔ Como resolver:

    Feche o Power BI Desktop

    Depois tente o upload novamente

    3. O navegador estĂĄ bloqueando o envio

    Isso pode acontecer por:

    cache corrompido

extensÔes (AdBlock, antivírus, plugin de privacidade)

    ✔ Tente:

    abrir em janela anĂŽnima

usar outro navegador (Edge ou Chrome)

    4. Falha temporĂĄria no prĂłprio QuickViz

Acontece principalmente nos horĂĄrios de pico.

✔ Teste enviar novamente após alguns minutos.

I cannot upload a ZIP file it is not supported.  I can only upload a PBIX file.  Can you give me some other suggestions?
