Question on the Max Date Result

Dear all,

I have a pretty simple table with a date column dated 01.01.2022 to 31.12.2023 as below. Under the report review, I apply the Date slicer and the range chosen is 01.01.2022 to 19.11.2022.

For the two measures I have created as below, they are considered the same and the only difference is illustrated in below. The XXX.[Date] is actually auto by the system when the measure is written. Can you please help me to understand why these 2 measures generate different Max Date outcome?

Measure 1: MAX(Table_Date[Date])
Measure 2: MAX(Table_Date[Date].[Date])

Hi @kelvin-lkhca

MAX(Table_Date[Date]) returns the maximum date value from the Date column of the ‘Table_Date’ table, whereas MAX(Table_Date[Date].[Date]) returns the maximum date value from the Date hierarchy of the ‘Table_Date’ table.
The slicer only affects the date column, not the hierarchy of that date.

For more information about date hierarchies in Power BI, you can refer to this documentation:

If you want to turn off date hierarchies in Power BI, you can do so by following these steps:
