So I am wondering about something that happens inconsistently when transforming data in Query Editor.
I will duplicate a column to apply a transformation (extract, date, multiply, etc.), and when the step is added, sometimes the duplicated column will be deleted, and other times not.
Anyone know why this happens? I have not been able to find anything talking about this. Thanks!
Hi @RodgerB ,
Need more information, could it be something like "merge queries" and "merge queries as new"?
Best Regards,
Jay

No problem. So, I will duplicate a column in Query Editor/PowerQuery to do things such as extract text from the column, change the date to a year value, or even multiply a column by a value. When the step is added, the new column will be created, but the column it was created from is still there. Other times, when I do this, the new column is created, and the old column is replaced with the new transformation.
It seems very random, so when I'm showing this to someone, I get this question a lot. "Why is your column gone, but mine is still here?" I hope this better explains what I mean. Thanks again!
