Publishing Error

Hello,

I have had a publishing issue for a few weeks now. It seems that the only thing that works is to deleted the dashboard from Power BI online, publish from Power BI Desktop and recreate the dashboard.

This is the message I get:

"Unexpected Error

Publishing failed for an unknown reason.

(FailedToRefreshPackageAfterImportError)"

I have already sent a frown. I have also noticed that this problem is growing amongst the Power BI Community. Has anything been done to tackle this issue?

Please let me know if you need further information.

Thank you,

I tried publishing a report from Power BI Desktop, opening the link given in the sucess dialog, pinning it to the dashboard then updating the report with another visual and republishing and it worked.

Could you describe the steps, that's leading you to this error?

Hello Meysun,

Thank you for replying.

I have already published my report and have created a dashboard online. When I want to update it with the latest data, I hit refresh on Power BI Desktop, and I get the error I mentioned in my first post.

When you 'Refresh' in Power BI Desktop, it should not give the above error. Refresh only loads the data to the report. Only when you publish, then it will ask you to replace the existing file.

If the file is also at the same time refreshed in the web or the dataset or report was renamed in the web, then you might run into this error.

So the suggestion is to make sure both the dataset and report name in the web remain the same as the original file name.

Make sure you have the latest version of the Power BI Desktop and then try publishing
