Problems with Matrix visualizations

I have a need for a financials report where the items in the rows are showing in their entirety. What I mean is with the Matrix visualization, it seems when you start adding items to the rows section, they get nested under each other. I don't know how to prevent that. The end user wants to see all of the items in an expanded view. Further, a lot of these have sums that correspond to months, so only the sums are showing for the row, not the "title". E.g., "Maintenance Fees" doesn't show up, just the sum and then the nested sums after that. I have one column value for each month in the year. If this doesn't make sense I can provide some cleaned up screen shots.
