Problem with Tooltip

I built a SPC chart based on a line chart and now I want to add some extra information with a tooltip.

  • The chart is based on data that comes from table A, with date as axis and values for the lines. This values come from some testing done at a workplace. For each date there can none, one or several testings.
  • Additionally, among others, there is a table with some logs. Special events that happened a this workplace. We also have a date when something happened and what. For each date, there can be none, one or several special events.
  • There is also a slicer that we use to filter the date like in between a start and end value.

Now I want to add a tooltip to the line chart so that if I hover a data point, I can see if there was a special event. Not every data point has one, so the tooltip should be empty when there was no special event for a certain data point.

While trying to find a solution, I crossed several problems:

  • Depending on the date filter, it updates the tooltip an replicates the same value to all data points.
  • I tried to work with a measure to get the special events. Like: If date for the special event matches the date of the test, take special event description, else nothing. But this doesn't work, I cannot select the columns from the other table.

Any ideas how to solve this?

At the end I found a solution myself using standard visual and standard tooltip. I could solve my issue by adding a calculated column to table A that has either the information of the log table or is empty (-).

This is how it looks like:

Hi @boeschr,

Here is Line chart with custom tooltip which will help you to get different tooltip for each line.

Line chart with custom tooltip, PBIVizEdit.comLine chart with custom tooltip, PBIVizEdit.comCustom tooltip for line chart, PBIVizEdit.comCustom tooltip for line chart, PBIVizEdit.com

Download link for the custom visual file in this page,

https://pbivizedit.com/gallery/line-chart-with-custom-tooltip

This was made with our Custom Visual creator tool PBIVizEdit.com. With this tool,

  • anyone, irrespective of technical skills, can create their own visuals
  • 15 minutes to create a visual from scratch
  • opens up many additional attributes to edit (for e.g. labels, tooltips, legends position, etc)

Give this a shot and let us know if you face any problem/errors.
You can use the editor to modify your visual further (some modifications cannot be done in Power BI window and have to be in editor).

Thanks,
Team PBIVizEdit

Hi @Mayank_Yavda . Sorry for the very late answer. Your answer was interesting but did not solve my problem. But I will have a look at the Custom Visual creator tool. This can help me with a current task 🙂 Nevertheless I found a solution myself.
