Problem with SQL Server database

Hi all,

I'm new one here and i have learned some basics about MS Power BI. I have never worked with MS Access.
My problem i s following:
I would like to join data source running on (better via DQ than import) SQL Server Database. I'm using VPN to reach the database source.

I think I have all permissions to join this database but if i want to join it this error shows up:
We couldn't authenticate with the credentials provided. Please try again. (I have tried both option as Windows user or Database user).
The server is running on: Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter with latest updates.

Thanks for all your advice, have a nice day

Hi @GilbertQ

I have read some details about connecting more sources and i know that's impossible combinate data from import and DQ or data from more then 1 data source (dbs).
Thank you for your advice and information, we found out the problem ( we had some issues with VPN program).

Have a nice day, R.

@Randalnik

Could you download SQL Server management studio and try to connect the database in the same host Power BI located? I'd doubt it might be the VPN issue?

Hi @Eric_Zhang

at first i would like to say thanks for your advice. The situation doesnt't allow to use yours steps due to security of DBS.

We solved the problem - we had issues with VPN Client program. So the best option is to work with data without  using VPN.

Thanks, have a nice day, R.

Hi @Randalnik

Are you trying to use DirectQuery to connect to more than one SQL Server System?

If so currently DirectQuery only supports one Source System at a time.

You only other option if from multiple SQL Servers, is to use the Import Mode.
