PowerPivot Export to Power BI: Model Update

Hi all,

I've exported my PowerPivot model to Power BI, and it's been good. What I don't understand is how it handles any changing of the underlying PowerQuery model.

Say I already exported the PowerPivot model, then I change that model, how do I update it to reflect Power BI? So far it doesn't look like it auto-updates.

Also, say I delete measures or columns in my underlying PowerPivot model, and it's being used it in my Power BI model, does it break? What are the best practices with this? What should I watch out for?

Thanks.

  • Hi there,

Happy to help. It sounds like you might think the two models between Power Pivot and Excel are connected somehow? So when you import a Power Pivot Model to Power BI it copies everything over, including connections, formulas, tables, power query steps, etc... But it is now a seperate and distnct entity. You can make any changes you want to either, but they won't save to the other one since they are distinct entities now. Hope this helps!
