I am new to PowerBI.
I have installed PowerBI Desktop from the Microsoft Store.
I believe it is updated each month automatically with the latest releases and patches.
I want to make sure the updates are being applied automatically.
How can I view the last date the patches/updates were automatically applied?
There is an 'About' option on the ribbon inside PowerBI that gives a version number but I can't find anything that specifically indicates when updates and or patches have been automatically added.

Hi @Rebelfox ,
The Power BI is updated monthly so the month information will also be updated usually around the middle of each month you get the latest version so if you are in then end of the month and you are still on the previous month in the about check the blog to see if there is any update.
But looking at the about should be enough.

Apps installed through Microsoft Store will update automatically.
How can I view the last date the patches/updates were automatically applied?
You could open Microsoft Store, click the library icon in the lower left corner of the store, and on the 'Library' page that opens, you will see all the apps installed on your device. The most recent update date will be displayed on the right side of each app.

Hello,
thats really interesting. Mine still says August in the Microsoft Store and September in the 'About' option inside PowerBI Desktop. This indicates it is not getting updated. I will monitor and look into how to update. I suspect my corporate network is blocking the automatic Microsoft Store updates. Thankyou for your help.
Hi @Rebelfox - While Power BI Desktop does not provide a direct way to see the last update date within the app itself, checking the Microsoft Store for update history and reviewing the Power BI Release Notes can provide insights into the latest updates and features.
In Power BI Desktop, especially when downloaded from the Microsoft Store, the application updates automatically. However, finding the exact date when the last updates or patches were applied can be a bit tricky, as the application itself does not explicitly display this information.
As you mentioned, you can access the version information through the Help menu. Click on File > Help > About to see the version number. While this does not show the update date, it confirms whether you are on the latest version.
You can also refer to the What's new in the latest Power BI update - Power BI | Microsoft Learn page. This page provides information about recent updates, features, and patches released for Power BI Desktop, which can give you context on the changes made in your current version.
Following the Power BI Blog is another way to stay updated on the latest features and enhancements, as Microsoft often announces significant updates there.
Hope this helps.

Hello,
my main goal is to check the updates are indeed happening and are being applied automatically.
Does the monthly update/patch change the version number each time which could be compared to the latest version number on a microsoft page somewhere?
The 'About' option It currently shows: Version: 2.136.1202.0 64-bit (September 2024).
I installed it for the first time in September so I am not sure if that will get updated by subsequent updates.
Thanks
Roy
