The latest version of PowerBI Desktop installed through the Windows Store: Version: 2.121.903.0 64-bit (September 2023)
Does not include the Databricks connector in the UI.
After a start of the product it does download the extra connectors in C:\Users\BijAJ\Microsoft\Power BI Desktop Store App\CertifiedExtensions. Including the "Databricks.pqx" it's 177 Kb.
I have multiple users reporting this issue.
Image: No Databricks Connector, but it's part of the CertifiedExtensions?

@abij I will check, but seems like you already know the fix. Interesting finding.

Oke, news!
The PowerBi Desktop installation (PBIDesktopSetup_x64_v2.121.903.0.exe) has the same issue as the Windows Store.
But, when the firewall was fully open, both the normal app and Store version show the Azure Databricks connector!
So it's a blocked request somehow.
Currently we do allow:
- appsource.powerbi.com,
- content.prod.powerquery.microsoft.com,
- go.microsoft.com
But one/some of these might be required, can be candidates which are blocked:
- pbivisuals.powerbi.com
- app.vssps.visualstudio.com
- clients.config.office.net
- api.powerbi.com
After adding pbivisuals.powerbi.com api.powerbi.com to the allow-list the Azure Databricks appears after a fresh install. edit: I have to investigate further which domain needs to be added... tomorrow.
@parry2k are you able to Firewall block some domains to see if you can replicate the issue?
Hi Alef, thanks for your quick and extensive reply.
I have to say that we do have a firewall blocking non-allowed domains. I'll try to allow all for my IP to see any difference.
1. It's a fresh install, from the Windows Store, the version indicates the latest release.
2. I've allowed all (not recommended)
3. Thats what I do normally, remove the entire CertifiedExtensions, it's get re-downlaoded.
4. I'm trying to validate the behaviour with normal version installed from website.
5. looking through it...
6. Will do, first I'll investigate furter.
Is there a way to start with verbose logging, to see why the extensions are not loaded? I could not find anything in the logs when enableing the trace logging in the UI.
Hello @abij have you solved the issue? We are facing it even today with the current version on our servers.
Thanks a lot
@abij what version are you using? I do see it
My version:

The absence of the Databricks connector in Power BI Desktop, even though it's present in the CertifiedExtensions folder, can be due to various reasons. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:
1. **Check for Updates**: First, make sure that Power BI Desktop is up to date. Sometimes, connector availability can be linked to specific versions of the application. Go to "Help" > "Check for updates" to ensure that you have the latest version installed.
2. **Enable the Connector**: Ensure that the Databricks connector is enabled in your Power BI Desktop. Go to "File" > "Options and settings" > "Options" > "Security" and make sure "Always enable custom connectors" is checked. This option can be helpful for allowing custom connectors.
3. **Remove and Reinstall the Connector**: You may try removing the Databricks connector from the "CertifiedExtensions" folder and then reinstall it. Close Power BI Desktop, delete the Databricks.pqx file, and then restart Power BI Desktop. This can sometimes trigger a reinstallation of the connector.
4. **Reinstall Power BI Desktop**: If none of the above steps work, you may consider uninstalling and reinstalling Power BI Desktop. This can resolve any potential corruption in the installation.
5. **Check with Power BI Community**: Visit the [Power BI Community](https://community.powerbi.com/) and see if others are experiencing a similar issue. Sometimes, issues related to connectors are reported by other users, and you can find solutions or workarounds there.
6. **Contact Microsoft Support**: If the issue persists, consider reaching out to Microsoft Support. They can provide more specific guidance and assistance for your particular case.
Connector availability and functionality can sometimes be affected by updates or issues specific to the application version you are using. Following the steps above should help you troubleshoot and potentially resolve this problem with the Databricks connector.
