Power bi connect to dataflow gen2

Hi all,

I'm trying to connect power bi desktop to dataflow gen2, and I have this error!

Aomran_1-1742168441743.png

The dataflow has no error in the workspace, and I have access!

Your response is really appreciated!

Thanks

Hi @Aomran ,
To provide more clarification on Dataflow Gen2:

If you just define your transformations in a Dataflow Gen2 and save it without writing the data to a destination (like a Lakehouse table or Warehouse), you're not actually persisting the data anywhere.
That means Power BI Desktop can't connect to it because there's no actual dataset to pull from.To make the data available to Power BI Desktop, you need to output your Dataflow Gen2 to a destination.
This could be a Lakehouse , Warehouse or Datamart. You must store the output of a Dataflow Gen2 somewhere.

I hope this helps!

@Aomran I generally used non-legacy, and as you can see, I navigated to my workspace -> then dataflow 3 -> and as I expanded it I saw tables that are part of this dataflow. Not sure why things are different at your end.

Thanks for your clarficaition, I'm not storing the data because no need for that, and to minimize the cost!

So in theory, I should be able to consum data from df gen2, but I've got the above error!

The connector is dataflows in power bi desktop, I've tried the first and last one!

@Aomran although if you don't send the output of dataflow to lakehouse/warehouse, it still stores the processed data. Best practice with df gen2 is to store the output to a lh/wh but if you are not storing it into the lh/wh, you can still connect to the dataflow and should be able to get the data from df gen2. Once you are connected to df, you should see the tables instead of SQL server. What dataflow connector are you using?

Let me tell you what's excatly I'm doing!

My understadning is, no need to store the data before consume it by power bi desktop, right?

So, I have dataflow gen2 without publish the data to anywhere! Just ingest the data from the source system and save the dataflow! In the power bi desktop, I've got the above error when trying to load data from dataflow!

Please let me know if it's not option to load data from dataflow without store it in lakehouse or wharehouse!

Thanks

@Aomran Let me make sure I understood your setup. You have DF Gen2 and you are sending the output of this dataflow to a fabric data warehouse or Lakehouse? Is this a correct understanding?

Hi @Akash_Varuna ,

Thanks for your reply. I'm talking about dataflow gen2, can you please give more dierction how I can enalbe the remote connection for SQL server? I'm still new with Fabric.

Hi @Aomran since you have permissions and access have you enabled remote connections for your SQL Server? If not, open SQL Server Configuration Manager and go to SQL Server Network Configuration. Navigate to Protocols for your SQL Instance, right-click on TCP/IP, and select Enable. Restart the SQL Server service to apply the changes. Let me know if this resolves the issue!
