Power BI version doesn't support custom visual (sampleBarChart)

Power BI version: 2.59.5135.781 64-bit (June 2018)

I've been following this tutorial https://github.com/Microsoft/PowerBI-visuals-sampleBarChart.

I can package the custom visual, import it into Power BI but when I try to add a field as "Category Data" and/or "Measure Data" I get the following error: "Your version of Power BI Desktop does not support this custom visual Please update Power BI Desktop to the lastest version"

Hi @nicolo_scarpa

you could download the lastest version from this link, look at the details to make sure it is version 2.60.5169.3201.

Or you can go to the download page from this link.

Best Regards

Maggie

Hi @nicolo_scarpa

How about updating the version to the lastest one (July 2018)?

Best regards

maggie

Where should I get the July 2018 version of Power BI?

By downloading and installing the one from the official website (https://powerbi.microsoft.com/it-it/desktop/) I still get the same version: 2.59.5135.781 64-bit (giugno 2018)

Hi Maggie,

I've downloaded and installed the latest version and now everything works.

Thank you!

Hi, I'm getting the same error for a custom visual built in R. I'm able to import it without issues but once I load the data to the visual, I am hit with the error.

Have you been able to figure out what the issue is?

Not yet!

Is there somebody from Microsoft that could tell us what to do?

I just had the problem, and it's due the fact the API, is to "new"? for the current Powerbi.

Go to the your visual project folder (also where the pbiviz.json is located) using cmd.

run the command

pbiviz update 1.10.0  (yes it's a api "downgrade", as we are at 13) (I do mind you, it might cause issues with typescript (i believe the 10 version supports typescript 2.3.3..., etc, so test it out)

repackage, and worked for me.

hi @SP4NU7CH

I recently came across this issue and i am trying what you suggested. my attempt was downgrading the api version to 2.5.0 as suggested here https://github.com/xiaodongliang/forgeviewer_embed_in_powerbi_report but i am missing something...

Can you please tell me which package i have to update when changin the API version in order to succefully package?

What i found was :

Typescript 2.3.3

Types/node 12.0.0

Types/d3 5.7.2

But that's not working, i get muktiple typescript errors like https://github.com/DefinitelyTyped/DefinitelyTyped/issues/30310

Thank you

Gian Marco

Did you manage to get the actual "sampleBarChart" example working by doing that?

I've downgraded the API version of the sample widget created with the "pbiviz new" command to 1.12.0 and it works. But this trick doesn't work with the sample of the "PowerBI-visuals-sampleBarChart" GitHub repository.

I've installed Power BI with the setup package downloaded from the official site (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=521662&clcid=0x410) on July the 12th.

I will try to download it again and reinstall it.
