Power BI not popping up sign in authenticator windows

Hey,

I have installed Power BI Desktop in my laptop, May's 2025 version, and after that, when I try to sign in it doesn't pop up the windows to authenticate with my corporate account.

I've installed the app from Microsoft store, uninstalled it and installed the .exe from the official web. I've run the application in Admin mode. Also, I've check the option in Security to "use my default web browser" to autenthicate. But it's still not popping up the window.

Do you have any ideas of what is happening?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Alicia

Hi @alicialcaide ,

This issue can sometimes happen due to a few hidden blockers in the environment. Here are a few things you can try:

  1. Clear Power BI Credentials Cache
Go to Credential Manager in Windows and remove any saved credentials related to Power BI or Microsoft accounts. Then try signing in again.

  2. Check Default Browser Behavior
Even if "Use my default browser" is enabled, make sure your default browser is not blocking pop-ups or running in a restricted mode (like incognito by default or with strict extensions).

  3. Try Disabling WebView2
Power BI uses WebView2 for authentication. You can try launching Power BI with WebView2 disabled:

    • Right-click the Power BI shortcut
    • Add this to the target path:
     "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Power BI Desktop\bin\PBIDesktop.exe" --disable-webview2
  4. Check Firewall or Endpoint Protection
Some corporate environments block the authentication window via endpoint protection or firewall rules. Try connecting from a different network or temporarily disabling security software (if allowed).

  5. Try a Clean User Profile
Create a new local user on your machine and install Power BI there. This helps rule out profile-specific issues.

Let me know if any of these help. If not, we can dig deeper.
