Power BI - merging multiple sources into one report (CSV files from Folder and Oracle database)

Dear Members,

kindly asking for support in below scenario:

Current state:

Keeping multiple CSV files in one folder, which is being later fetched into Power BI though command "Get data" > "Folder"

Desire scenario:

Will be switching to "Oracle database" connection moving forward, thus need to somehow keep CSV still loaded and add into the report that portion as well.

Challenge observed:

Since data in my "Oracle connection" changes on a weekly basis I need to somehow keep older version to avoid overwrting them.

See below example:

  1. CSV files: 02/06/2022, 09/06/2022, 16/06/2022 - need to remain in the report.
  2. Oracle connection: 23/06/2022 - I can easily add into previous by merging queries.
  3. Oracle connection: 30/06/2022 - how to add this one into the report while keeping the database from 23/06/2022 as well?

It depends on whether the data in your data source has been overwritten. Because Power BI is not used to store data, but to display data.  If the data in your data source is overwritten, the data will be updated when you click refresh in the Power BI Desktop.

Hi,

fully agree when it comes to overall Power BI destination as display tool. Been wondering though whether in such case is there a way to somehow store previous database "snapshost". Any ideas?

Hi @ponczula

Thanks for your reply!

Is there any previous data stored in the data source? If not, it is recommended that you keep a snapshot of the previous data in the database. Otherwise, it is not possible for Power BI to create previous data.
