Power BI Report Collaboration

A user shared workspace with me and i tried edit a report online ( Since i had to add a new sheet to existing report ) however i'm unable to add new datasource to it.

How can i go about it ?

Please note, i tried downloading PBIX file and adding new sheet with new datasource however it disrupted the old views when i published it back to the same workspace ( replaced the original report )

  • Ensure you have edit access to the workspace.

Download the file, modify it in Power BI Desktop by adding the data source.

Make sure existing visuals are not impacted by the new data.
Publish the modified report under a new name to avoid disrupting the original.

Kedar_Pande : I think that's a good approach to rename and publish , if everythings fine we could then overwrite the same report ? so that the end users don't need a change of links and stuff

danextian : Are you suggesting that i take PBIP file from that user then open and work in Power BI desktop and publish changes to same workspace.

And that this approach could possibly be better that PBIX approach ?

    Hi Garry030424 ,

Yes, you can rename and publish the modified report first to make sure everything is fine before overwriting the original report. This way, end users don't need to change links or bookmarks, keeping their experience the same.
