Power BI Report Accesibility Options

Hi All,

I have been exploring on implementing accessibility in to my reports. There are few things I got to know that can be done for improving accessibility of the reports which I will mention below. 

 

1. Setting up Proper Tab Order

2. Setting up Alt Text for the visuals

3. Designing reports with friendly colors like Monochromatic pattern for users having Color Visibility Challenges

4. Using Screenreaders to read the data.

 

It is in the Point 4 I am looking for some options.

What I noticed so far is, I can use the "Show as Table" option to read into the contents of the visual with the tab navigation when using screenreaders. I have also found a way to use Summaries for this purpose.

 

I would like to know what else is an option to better use Screen readers in our reports to read into the values of the report when using Tab Navigation.

 

Any help is appreciated !

    Hey there!

     

    Here are some possible solutions for you!

    1. Enable Keyboard Navigation for Reports
    Ensure that Tab Order is correctly set up in Selection Pane.
    Go to View > Selection Pane
    Arrange elements in the correct reading order for keyboard navigation.

     

    2. Use "Show Data" Instead of "Show as Table"
    Besides Show as Table, you can enable "Show Data" so that screen readers can read the entire dataset behind a visual.
    Right-click on a visual → Select "Show Data".

     

    3. Activate the Narrator Mode in Power BI
    Windows Narrator can read titles, values, and descriptions of Power BI visuals.
    Press Windows + Ctrl + Enter to launch Narrator.
    Ensure that Power BI accessibility mode is enabled (in Options > Report Settings).

     

    4. Leverage "Alt Text" for Custom Readouts
    You can manually describe visuals by adding Alt Text:
    Select a visual → Click Format Pane → Alt Text → Enter a meaningful description.
    This ensures that screen readers announce insights instead of just object names.

      Thanks for the points. As you may see in my question, I am already implementing all of these.

      My question is very specific to screen readers reading into the data in the report visual when using Tab navigation.

       

      If you know of something that can be done with this, It will be great!
