I'm new to Power BI but have set up Excel for data analysis for years, so am reasonably confortable with how this should work.
I'm playing around with a dataset in SQL for which I have a stored procedure which takes start and end date parameters.
I have set up a test report which uses this stored procedure and it displays some data. So far so good.
My problem is that I can't see how to add a calendar type control to a report to choose the two dates and then link those controls to the parameters in the query.
I've seen some articles which have indicated that I can have a parameters pane where I can add a date picker, but I can't for the life of me work out how to do this in the free version. On the latest release.
Is this even possible with the version I'm running? Has this been moved or changed to another concept?
regards
Ian
Hi, thanks for getting back. Unfortunately thats not what I'm asking. I have already gotten my stored procedure to work and I have a query set up in powerbi, which works and which displays a table of data.
What I can't work out how to do is to add some sort of a date control to the report/page/layout which is linked to the parameter and which will allow the user to open the report and select a date from the dropdown which will cause the report to refresh with the corresponding data.
i.e, what should be the hardest bit, the querying/stored procedure, etc was all pretty easy. What should be easy has gotten me blocked. Its probably obvious, but I can't see how to do this.
This posting hinted at being able to add controls which were linked to parameters
Solved: Filter based on date range - Microsoft Power BI Community
and this documentation clearly shows a box with controls on it which are being passed to a query.

I should also say that I don't want to just enable column filters. The idea is going to be to display graphical data, not tables of data.
Apologies, I didn't receive any notification regarding your response and I haven't been back to this posting since then. I eventually worked out how to pass parameters. The process is pretty ugly but its an improvement on the way it used to work in Excel with ms query.
