Power BI Desktop - Maps Labels / Tooltips

All,

I have been looking for awhile now but I cant find out how to do the following:

1. Change the label map to show something other than the location data, so if you have used GPS coords it will only show coords. I have loc coords for several locations but I would like to show a label above them with the location name, I cant use address details as the locations are stations or junctions where you dont have a normal postcode / address.

2. Create a more useful tooltip with a combination of data, but when I try to add a string it wants to 'count' that data and no option to show string instead of a count / numeric value.

Any help would be great, btw loving Power BI very much but I'm pretty new with the Microsoft products outside of the Office suites, so please bear with me if I have missed something obvious.

Regards

JB

@JBarton As described in this thread, you should be able to create a measure that will return text values for tooltips.

@Seth_C_Bauer thank you, the irony is that I saved this in my phone last night and couldn't find it again this morning....

Any ideas on the labels? cant seem to figure out how to show anything but the coord when labels are enabled.

@JBarton Huh... Interesting. I was going to say "no", but testing this out quick again in the Service is showing me different results... I can drop in a second "Station" field in the location section, then the drill down feature gets enabled, and I can drill down to the "Station" name - in your case. But while I can add the field in the Desktop, it doesn't work the same way... it doesn't show up in the label. I can only imagine it is a slight variation and will eventually make it's way to the Desktop, or a bug that it doesn't currently show.

I was also able to then move the name up to the top level of location, and the drill down was to the address (In the Service)...

So, it is deriving location off the address, but allowing you to replace that with a "Name" on a different level.

Let me know if you see the same behavior.

You can use the "Legend" to display the names of your stations.

Currently Tooltip only supports numeric fields but you could post an Idea if it does not already exist to have it support Text.
