Power BI: Can users select specific columns when exporting data from a visual?

Hi All,

In Power BI, when we enable the "Export Data" option (the export icon on the top-right of a visual), the entire underlying or summarized dataset is exported by default.

We are looking for a way to allow users to select specific columns to export, rather than exporting all columns from the visual. Is this functionality currently supported in Power BI, or is there a workaround or feature setting we might have missed?

Any guidance or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Vedanth Kopperla

    Hi Vedanth

Thanks Jihwan_Kim  and danextian  really appreciate both your suggestions.

You're absolutely right, enabling Personalize Visuals does offer a good workaround by allowing users to choose which columns appear in the visual before exporting. I tested it out, and once users personalize the visual (e.g., removing unwanted fields), the exported data reflects their custom view. Also, the Field Parameters option is a great alternative, especially when you want to give end users more structured control over visible fields via a slicer. This is especially useful when personalization is turned off.

    Hi Vedanth ,

Just checking back were you able to implement either the Personalize Visuals feature or the Field Parameters approach in your report? As supper users suggested. Let us know which one ended up working better for your use case. If you ran into any challenges while setting it up especially around slicer behavior or export functionality, feel free to share we’d be glad to help troubleshoot.

    Regards,

Hope you're doing well. Just wanted to check in again were you able to give the Personalize Visuals or Field Parameters approach a try in your report? No pressure at all, just wanted to make sure you're not stuck and that things are moving smoothly on your end. Looking forward to your update.
