Percentage caluclation resulting with big unusal number instead of blank

In the First matrix I have values Yearmonthly wise

anusha_2023_0-1733375582478.png

DAX:

NRR% =
VAR _CurrentYear = CALCULATE([RR], GeneralLedgerView[Type] = "Actual")
VAR _PreviousYear = CALCULATE([RR], GeneralLedgerView[Type] = "Actual", PARALLELPERIOD('Date'[Date], -12, MONTH))

RETURN
    IF(
        NOT(ISBLANK(_CurrentYear)) && NOT(ISBLANK(_PreviousYear)) && _PreviousYear <> 0 && _CurrentYear <> 0,
        DIVIDE(_CurrentYear, _PreviousYear, BLANK()),
        BLANK()
    )
I am using this formula to calculate the percentage year over year and resulting with unusual  value for Yearmonth "202410"

I am having this issue at multiple places while working percentages in power BI. What could be the potential cause

Hi @anusha_2023

it seems that you have a very small number for 202310, for "RR" calculation (202310 is not exact zero!). to find out that number I think you can multiply the numbers in first  image you shared, by *10^16.

If this post helps, then I would appreciate a thumbs up and mark it as the solution to help the other members find it more quickly.

Hi @anusha_2023

try VAR _PreviousYear=VAR _CurrentYear-1

Hi @anusha_2023

  • Verify the data for "202410" and "202310".
  • Ensure the Date table is marked as a date table and spans the required range.
  • Add a check to log _CurrentYear and _PreviousYear values for debugging.
