Pass parameter to embedded Power BI to limit data viewed

Hello,

I'm currently working with some basic Power BI reports about sales, which have some very basic filters : Store, Restaurant and Dates.

Our reports are embedded in our web portal (.Net).

We have several type of users, that need to be logged in to access the portal. The user session have some parameters that we use to determine which options have the user.

Therefore, we want to find a secure way to pass parameters to our embedded Power BI reports, and then limit the data viewed by the person.

For exemple, pass intertnally a parameter "Store" (stored in the user session), to limit the view in the PowerBI reports only to data with belongs to the store of the designed store manager. I can imagine that we can then set an hidden filter "Store" with the value passed as paramater, so the user is unable to change the value and see only the data allowed.

Feel free if you need any input.

Thank you !

Hi @NeimadB ,

It sounds as if you want to give your users secure access to the data and get the corresponding data according to the corresponding permissions. You can try RLS in power bi.

Row-level security (RLS) with Power BI can be used to restrict data access for given users. Filters restrict data access at the row level, and you can define filters within roles. In the Power BI service, members of a workspace have access to datasets in the workspace.

For more details you can refer this article.
