Dear Experts
I have built a PBI report using the PBI live dataset + Excel File by enabling the Direct Query feature.
Pusbilshed it in the existing workspace where the original dataset is.
Does the refresh on the new dataset actually refreshes both excel and the PBI dataset? Should n't the PBI dataset have the data as soon as the original dataset is refreshed?
Also please advise does the live dataset need any gateway settings to be maintained? I have already enabled gateway for the excel file data.
Please can someone pleaes explain.
Thanks
Mahad

Hi @Anonymous ,
If the power bi dataset is connected to an original dataset, as long as the data source credentials in the original dataset are successfully configured, the current power bi dataset does not need to configure the credentials of the first dataset (but it needs to have the previous dataset read and build permissions), just configure the newly added data source credentials.
If the first dataset is in import mode, the data of the first dataset needs to be refreshed so that the second dataset can display the latest data.

@Anonymous , Direct Query does not require refresh, so only need excel refresh. The dataset used should take care refresh of its data refresh. The new dataset refresh will only needed for excel
