Old database schema

Hello all,

I am trying to begin to use Power BI tool for some reports. I think it is very visual an effective method to get a better perspective about corporative indicators. So this is muy first post in this forum.

It is about a problem. I am trying to reuse a pbit , with a perfect output design so that it can be retouched later as needed. The problem is that is an older report, with some queries and fields that does not match with the actual data source  database schemas. I could verify that many changes in this link: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/intune/developer/reports-changelog .

My question is, can i update automatically the database schemas in the report to mantain all queries and fields in the report or i have to change it manually, trying to match fields with its substitutes or similars?.

Thank in advance for the help.

Hi,

I think you should re-create your new queries to match fields.

If the meta data has changed, the old queries can not find data from data source.

The Impact of this change depends on the Power BI Storage Mode.

If you are using direct query and connected to View which has standardised naming convention to the view and columns then to some extent it is possible.

If it is import route, you need translate to standared naming in M Query but if you have change in number of columns then it will thorw the same error.

regards
