OLE DB or ODBC error: [DataFormat.Error] The specified package is invalid. The main part is missing.

hi all,

getting an error message while refreshing the data in PBI desktop. OLE DB or ODBC error: [DataFormat.Error] The specified package is invalid. The main part is missing...

The weird part is that if i refresh the data in the Transform Data level, there are no issues. Also checked all the measures if there could be something related to this error message but there is none.

Hope anyone can help

Thanks in advance!

Hi @Anonymous ,

Firstly, the error message you're encountering typically indicates a problem with the connection to your data source or with the data source itself. Since you're able to refresh at the Transform Data level without issues, it suggests that the connection to your data source is generally correct, but there might be specific elements or queries that are causing problems when refreshing the entire dataset.

1. Check Data Source Settings: Ensure that your data source settings are correctly configured. You can do this by going to Home > Transform Data > Data source settings. Make sure that the credentials and connection details are correct.
2. Review Advanced Editor for Queries: Sometimes, specific queries might be causing the issue. Open the Advanced Editor for each query and look for any potential errors or references to missing parts. This can be accessed by going to Home > Transform Data, right-clicking on a query, and selecting Advanced Editor.
3. Update OLE DB or ODBC Drivers: Ensure that you have the latest drivers installed for your data source. Outdated or corrupt drivers can sometimes cause these types of errors. For more information on updating OLE DB drivers, you can refer to the Microsoft documentation on OLE DB Driver for SQL Server.
