OAuth API - Xero - Data Connection Options

Hello,

I've done a fair amount of research on this now, have any of you actually solved this problem in a satisfactory way with minimal complications?

Ideally I want to be able to pull my Xero information into Power BI desktop. We have several Xero entities so I need to be able to call all of them. Then I will use a currency conversion table to true up the currencies and then I would like to build my reports in Power BI desktop, publish them, and have the web data refresh on a daily schedule.

My options appear to be:

  1. Follow the various 'solutions' that involve M-script and passing the API credentials and end-points in the query editor - seems janky and not clean
  2. Create a custom connector - will need to buy visual studio and learn a new tool, also can't refresh data from web
  3.  CData drivers enabling an OData connection - not a lot of information out there and also doesn't seem clean
  4. Stitch - seems clean but then I will also need to buy an intermediate data storage plan, this will add up
  5. Acterys - seems clean and seems to support multi org data analysis

Let me know what's worked for you

TY!

I'm afraid currently power bi desktop doesn't have Xero connector which can connect to Xero directly. You can create a custom connector using Odata api with power query but this is not simple.

From this thread, it seems like the Acterys connector is most suitable with your requirement.

      Hi @rashton45646548

Since writing your post there is now an cloud based app which enables live odata feed connections

      https://apps.xero.com/au/app/odatalink

It uses Power BI's existing Odata Feed connector and does not require any software to be installed
