New fields in oracle database doesn't appear in my module

Dear sirs,

I had a Power BI module getting the data from the Oracle database. A new field had been added to the database, I couldn't see those new fields in my module however I made a refresh. I don't want to lose all the calculated columns & relationships that are already established in my module.

Regards

Do you have view in the database or step in powerquery (table.selectcolumn()) that selects columns that doesn't include the new column?

Hi @Maahmohammed, so let's follow these steps:

  1. Get the pbix file of your report and open it in Power BI Desktop. If you don't have pbix file, make sure to contact the report author/your IT team and ask them to do the following steps/send the file to you
  2. Now, open pbix file and verify what is a connectivity mode used in the file? You can find more about it here - Different Connectivity Modes in Power BI - ClearPeaks
  3. Now focus on the connectivity mode of a table, where new columns are missing.
    1. Is it connected via DirectQuery? If so, you need to contact IT team and verify with them why you see only a part of the data. Potential reason: your user account doesn't have enough permissions
    2. Is connectivity mode "Import"? If so, Power Qeury Editor is used to connect to the data: go to "Transfrom Data", find the query (i.e., table) where columns are missing on the left side, click on it and carefully review all "Applied stesps" (on the right side of the screen). Does one of the first steps where you see the table for the first time contains data? If so, then the new columns are filtered out. Review the following steps and adjust accordingly. If not, then the table you connected doesn't contain new columns: verify that you're not working with a copy of the table and make sure that columns ahve been added to exactly this table and not the one that has a very similar name or located somewhere else (for instance in another schema of a database)

These steps should help you to identify the issue. Most likely you're connected to a wrong table, or unintentionally filtering out the data you need to keep or don't have enough permissions.

Good luck with your project! 🙂

@Maahmohammed did you try to refresh it from Power Query?

Don't forget to give thumbs up and accept this as a solution if it helped you!!!

Please take a quick glance at newly created dashboards : Restaurant Management Dashboard , HR Analytics Report , Hotel Management Report, Sales Analysis Report , Fortune 500 Companies Analysis , Revenue Tracking Dashboard

How does that dashboards answer my question?
