Multiple same data sources in 1 composite model

Hello,

This is my first post, i hope i have the good section 🙂

I have multiple SSAS datasets and PowerBI datasets which are publised to PowerBI online. I create a new dataset by connecting to the different publised SSAS datasets and PowerBI datasets (storage mode mixed), all goes well.

When i choose to add a table from lets say dataset1 and later i want to add another table from dataset 1 then a second data source connection is created:

dataset1.png

I see this for every table i add from a data source used earlier. Also, when i click on refresh then all the duplicated data sources are shown:

Is this normal behaviour, is it good or bad? I couldn't find anything about this issue. What I would like to see is 1 datasource for every set of tables which are part of 1 dataset and not a new connection for the same data source.

  • It should be fine because, in the background, it's accessing only one table that was selected at the time. Therefore, even though you can see more processes related to one dataset, they are interconnected.

  • If you want to view only one dataset for all the tables related to it, follow these steps when adding a new table:

    1. Instead of creating a new source through "Get Data," click on "Data Source Settings."

    2. Within the Data Source Settings, click on the intended dataset.

    3. Click on "Change Source" and select the dataset again.

    4. Now, while selecting the tables, include all the required tables from that dataset.

By following this process, you will have only one dataset, and it will encompass all the necessary tables.

Thanks and Regards,
